WHAT IS STC?

STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings establish a way to average how much sound is stopped by something. STC ratings are used for windows, doors, walls and most building materials. STC ratings are the only way to accurately compare various noise reduction products. An STC rating is an instrument measurement of how much noise is stopped.

Sound transmission can cause noise control, confidentiality, and privacy issues. Sound from noises scubas airplanes, traffic or subway trains can transmit through a partition into a quieter space. If sound transmission is not properly controlled, the space or environment will not provide privacy for its users.

HOW TO ACHIEVE STC RATED WINDOWS & DOORS

Tiltco creates a combinations of various glass types and acoustical window frames that can effectively reduce sound transmissions. In todays design selecting the appropriate glass for any residential or commercial building can be a challenge and many factors should be taken into account.

Glass is considered to be a poor performer for sounds transmission, but the glass used in tiltco products create a greater sounds reduction. Depending on the project the sound can be decreased on the thickness in the multiple glass ply. Each window can be customized to the behaviour using laminated, insulating or a combination of each to have its own specific frequency.

Created to provide a single number rating for interior building partitions that are subjected to noises from speech, television, radio and office equipment. The higher the number, the higher the sound transmission loss or noise reduction. STC ratings are calculated over the frequency range of 125 to 4000 hertz. The rating is calculated by comparing the measured sound transmission loss to a reference contour curve.
